Operators’ users say have issues on Jan 23, firms deny failures

MOSCOW, Jan 25 (PRIME) -- Users of Russian large telecom operators MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom, T2 RTK Holding, and Rostelecom complained about malfunctions on January 23, but the companies denied having any connection issues.

Downdetector, which tracks problems in work of popular Internet resources, first showed users’ complaints on functioning of MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom, working as Beeline, and T2 RTK Holding, working as Tele2 after 11 a.m. Moscow time on January 23. Reports were mainly registered in several large cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Rostelecom was also said to have problems on its network. An operator spokesperson told PRIME the network worked regularly.

“The information on a large-scale failure on Beeline’s mobile network in Russia is not true. We see increased load on the network in certain areas, which can affect the speed of access to some resources,” a VimpelCom spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for MTS said the network worked normally and added that the presence of a crowd within a limited space with active data traffic can slow down the mobile Internet.
